Passenger Clothing would like to welcome Adventurer/Photographer Lucia Griggi to the family.

Born in Jersey and with a father from Venice, Italy and a mother from the landlocked county of Surrey it seems almost inevitable that Lucia Griggi would carry the desire to travel and explore. Spending holidays and life between the continent and the UK shaped an outlook on life that has grown into making a living from passion.

Fast forward to present day and you’ll find her cruising the coast of California, shooting photos of surf for lifestyle brands and the WSL, it’s a far cry from Surrey, but an exciting life with opportunity to surf and rub shoulders with some of the most well known brands and characters in surfing. California brings its own issues for a British explorer, it’s fast, chaotic and vast. It’s an enviable spot to call home, but as is her perspective, Lucia is unwilling to pin it down as ‘home’ for good. Who knows what is around the corner? Lucia certainly isn’t putting all her eggs in one basket when there is a world of travel and opportunity out there, just waiting to be enjoyed.

After university, like many surf-a-holics, Lucia made the move to Cornwall. Surfing was exciting and drew her to photography, it went hand in hand with winter travels after long summers as a surf instructor. Over the years she ticked off Morocco, Sri Lanka and Australia to name a few. As her passport filled with stamps so too did her portfolio of surf and lifestyle images. The ability to be creative and record simple, beautiful adventures for a lifetime proved to be a useful skill, and she began to link up and travel the coast with British surfers and international surf brands gathering a reputation for adventure and framing perfect moments. The fruits of Lucia’s labour have seen her work in the USA, Maldives, Fiji and Africa, and also the colder water surfing shores of Alaska and the North Pacific.

Most recently Lucia has begun to work with the WSL, documenting the ‘Dream Tour’ and everything that goes with it. She had worked on the British surf tour for many years, but a chance meeting in Mundaka, Spain fostered a friendship that turned into a travel companion. Years down the line that has paid back big time. It just goes to show that a simple and relaxed outlook can land you the jackpot! This has stoked the fire for adventure and exploration, with trips to Morocco and Ireland on the cards with many more destinations yet to be confirmed. Why confine yourself to plan? Take each journey and destination as it comes. Lucia craves that moment of finding the place she’d like to call ‘home’, somewhere quiet, away from the ‘white noise’ and commotion of the daily grind.

How do you get to here? There’s no map or easily defined plan. Lucia is driven by passion and inspiration. Life is an inspiration in itself, its many unknown mysteries, its downs and its hidden gems. Passion and passionate people are inspiring to Lucia too, showing us that it’s not necessarily what you do but how you do it that really counts. Music and the sea provide the soundtrack to her life, giving a passionate shove in the direction of photography and the sea.

Lucia is an inspiring person herself, you can see it in her art form and how she carries herself, a wholehearted perspective on life. She is most content when she is doing what she loves, travelling the world, keeping it simple and getting in the sea. It’s a lifestyle we all secretly want, Lucia just shows us how to make it all seem very simple.
